Skupina Smash Mouth se dala dohromady v roce 1994 v kalifornském San Jose. Hodně je ovlivnil zvuk kapely P.U.S.A., k tomu přidali trochu pop-rocku, garážového zvuku a po vydání první desky měli na svém kontě jeden velký hit.
