Kapela Slayer vznikla v roce 1981.Založil ji kytarista Kerry King.Druhým kytaristou a také druhým členem kapely se stal Jeff Hannemann.Další členové pak basista a taky zpěvák Tom Aray a bubeník Dave Lombardo.
